Our Competition HistoryThe latest incarnation of the Boonslick Chordbusters has attended and competed at a number of Central States District conventions. This page attempts to document our participation in those competitions. (Webmaster note: As with many of the pages on this site, this page is very much under development.)
1999 (Aug 28) -- Hillsboro, MOThis was a District prelim, and was the first competition for the group. 20 guys made the short trip over to Hillsboro (just south of St. Louis). Here are our scores:
2000 (Apr 15) -- Lincoln, NEWe took 20 guys and had a good time, but we didn't sing as well as we had hoped (increasing our scores only about 9 points overall) and finished well down in the pack. Our scores are shown below the photo.
2001 (Apr 21) -- St. Joseph, MOThe Chordbusters took 24 guys up to St. Joe, increased our overall score by 51 points, placed second in the "A" plateau, and garnered Most Improved Chorus honors as well! (click here for more)
2002 (Apr 13) -- Columbia, MOThe Chordbusters hosted the Spring CSD convention, so we concentrated all of our energy and efforts on being good hosts instead of competing. (click here for more)
2003 (Apr 12) -- Lincoln, NEWe returned to Lincoln, this time with only 16 guys, and struggled, dropping back 18 points on our previous effort -- most of that in Presentation -- so the 2-year layoff from competing obviously took its toll.
2007 (Oct 20) -- Kansas City, MOAfter skipping 2004-2006, we decided to take advantage of the Fall CSD competition being held close to us in Kansas City ... our request to go first in the competition was granted by the CSD (imagine if we had been forced to sing immediately after the Ambassadors of Harmony or Heart of America choruses?) and we took 17 guys (plus Tarry, who was still recovering from rather serious surgery just a couple weeks before) to KC ... our results were the best in our history, albeit by only a few tenths of a point (on average) ... still, it was good to be back on the big stage and we all had a great time!
(Editor's note: six guys have participated in all four of our CSD competitions: Walter Coplen, Jack Donavan, Greg Grote, Harlan Hackett, Tarry Koutz, and Tom Palis ... I believe that all of them also attended our initial regional competition, but I don't have the records to positively confirm it.) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
