Barbershop Christmas Festival

The dates are locked in, the arrangements made.  The 2001 Christmas Festival is set.  The Boonslick Chordbusters received such positive feedback from last year's Christmas show that we just had to do it again!

The format seems to be a winning one. The Boonslick Chordbusters are bringing in one of the top 4 Barbershop Choruses in the country:  The Ambassadors of Harmony.  Also featured will be Columbia’s own 5th Grade Honors Choir.  The Boonslick Chordbusters will sing one or two numbers but are acting primarily in behind-the-scenes activities to support and feature these two groups.

The Ambassadors of Harmony (www.aoh.org) are from the St. Charles, MO area.  The chorus has over 130 active members and over 90 participate in the performing chorus.  The chorus has been singing together for over 33 years and still has 5 of its original founders singing! They continue to place at the top of the scale at the International Competition - six of the past seven years they have placed in the top 5. Their musicianship is superb and their showmanship is excellent.  They will deliver an outstanding combination of barbershop and traditional Christmas songs that audiences of all ages will enjoy.

It’s hard to impress on those unfamiliar with Barbershop just how good the Ambassadors are or what it means to have them in Columbia.  Despite this, last year the Ambassadors found out just how good of a "Barbershop Town" Columbia is!  The house was full of folks who really enjoyed the show and let it be known!  Because of the warm reception and strong attendance they were willing to come back again this year.  We are all looking forward to this year's show.

The Ambassadors of Harmony and the Boonslick Chordbusters are proud to be able to provide a stage to the 5th Grade Honors Choir.  To be associated with Barbershop is to support music education.  We do this in many ways, and giving this fine Columbia youth choir a stage and an opportunity to perform in a professional setting is a wonderful learning experience for these young singers.  The Honors Choir is directed by Mary Beth Ming and is an auditioned, extra curricular choir made up of 5th grade students from all of the elementary schools in Columbia.  Last year’s performance of Barbershop Blues was choreographed and sung so well that the audience nearly leapt out of their seats to applaud the group! We can’t wait to see what they do this year!
